This bear was well known in the area. Even had north woods law looking for our bait site.  Didn’t realize how big of a black bear we were dealing with until we got our first pictures of him. First bear I have ever harvested. Was taken with my Mathews bow. And I currently hold the Maine state record for archery black bear at 540lbs

First buck ever wth my CVA Muzzleloader. Cut his track walking into my treestand, decided to follow the track instead of sit. 20 minutes later I hit my grunt call as I created the ridge. He came in within 30 seconds. 10 point Maine buck 

Made it happen tonight. Got out of work late. Drove into my spot. Knew I didn’t have time to make it to my stand so I went to a secondary spot. Grunted like crazy, rattled my antlers for a minute straight, kicked leaves and branches all over the place. 10 minutes later he came in to investigate. Presented me with a 30 yard shot through the whippets. Didn’t even have time to see what he really had for head gear. Very thankful for this animal to say the least. Lost my grandfather almost a week ago and I’d like to say he may have had a hand in this. Some people may say I’m crazy but I’m a firm believer in things like that.

Caught this guy working his scrape line on a 30+ mph windy day. Wasn’t going to sit but my father encouraged me to. Couldn’t have gotten this one without his persistence. 201 lb 9 point 

First ever deer with my bow. Not a monster but it got me hooked on bow hunting. Love maines early season expanded archery. 

This is an awesome bear.  Congratulations.  What time of day did he come in?

Right at last light. I could hear him breathing while he was walking through a thicket. When he stepped out my heart was in my throat. 


It's an awesome bear.  It's not often a bear that large will hit a bait at legal shooting time.  It must have been so exhilarating. I bet you felt the bear could hear your heart beating.  Lol

You're dad has some experience I would say.  I have always found it much easier to make the decision not to get up when there is a wind.  Especially a 30 mph one. Lol

He definitely is the one who kicks me into gear! 

That's the reason this one is so special and always will be I'm sure
