"BIG 9"

I had this guy on camera September 2 during Expanded Archery season and I made it my goal to cross paths with him. After hunting hard during archery season and continued my scouting and hunting into rifle season. I located a nice sign post that had some recent activity near a feeding area and A known doe bedding area and set up shop, placing my stand on the down wind side of a good run. 

I got into the stand at about 5:30 which gave me a half hour until day break. The temperature was a brisk 15 degrees and frost laid atop every branch, so things weren't quiet walking into the stand. After letting things quiet down for ten minutes I began a rattle sequence followed up with a variation of grunts. 
At 6 o'clock the sun crested the eastern tree line and I could hear some movement behind me, which led me to do another sequence of rattle/grunts since I had been a 25 minutes since my first sequence. 

Before the deer coming in behind me had a chance to make an appearance, I noticed a shooter buck cresting the field across from me, Full Sneak. He came in looking for a fight at 60 yards and the rest is history. 30-06 Remington Model 700 with a 150 grain shell.

"Dearborn Property Buck"

This buck was shot on a cool morning the weekend after I got married.  Sitting in a tree stand on a windy morning he crossed the swale about 20 minutes after daylight. I believe my Cronks "Bucks Joy" scent and some tending grunts helped get him interested.. 250 yard shot hit him good, but some additional tracking and a kill shot was needed to finish the job.  212 lbs.. 8 Points.

Nice story.  Those days hunting on frosted ground the third week of the season are the ones I feel most optimistic.    Thank for sharing the memory.
