Met up with good friend Jode Hillman to push me on his rail skiff thru the meadows of yellowfowler and wild rice  in search of the elusive Sora Rail. Always a great time every year. Great way to kick off gunning season.

Last day of NJ early split solo hunt. Been a real slow start lack of birds or birds that have a place they want to be.

Relaxing cool breezy evening with friends. Birds never showed up... sometimes its about taking in the views sights and sounds.

Tough wind before the rain. Winds made it tough for birds to do what we wanted but managed to bring a few down. Quick relaxing after work Gentlemans hunt.

NJ #2 Ol' son. What a ride it was chasing this bird. He lived 2 miles from home. Always kept him on the backburner. Had numerous trail cam pics of him the past few years he held the woods down behind my buddies place.... Chased him a few times myself and even let my girlfriend try him but he would never give it up to seal the deal on where he was hanging out and roosting. Well this spring he roosted in the same group of trees his father used to roost in when I shot him a few years back. So I held off on him all season hoping my girlfriend would have an open Saturday to go get him but things never lined up then D week came around and it got hot and I lost hope after going in on him last week and not hearing a peep from him then I shot the Yote.... yesterday morning I was hesitant on going but I rolled out of bed and treked in the woods got to the general area and waited on gobbles. Nothing until I let out a locator call he lights off 200 yards from me. So I cut the distance and set up on him in some oaks he was roosted in bordering a field. Gobbling at everything I threw at him while he was on the limb hoping he would pitch down my way sooner because I was on a time crunch to get to work for 7... well 620 comes and he goes silent so I presumed he pitched off the limb... threw a few cuts and he lights off sounding further... so I got a location on him picked up my gear and made moves on him to try and cut the distance. Slipped thru the woods to the next clearing and next thing you know I pop out and there's a tree between me and him just over a small rise he sees me but doesn't know what to make of me so I crouch down and hustle ass to the tree pop up and raise the gun as I came around the tree and he was still there. It was now or never.... Squeezed off and the rest is history. Bittersweet ending on this ol son lots of history between me and him hopefully he bred some more hens for the future. 20lbs10" beard1-1/4" hooks..
