This deer came out on several different occasions, but I kept saying that I wanted something a little bigger.  He got to the point where he came out a third time on the same day, and at that point, I wanted to fill my freezer rather than wait for a trophy to come out.  He ran about 10 years and dropped. 3-point, 90 pound.  

Robyn Leighton

This is my first year going out without my Dad.  I went out with him several years in a row and unfortunately, last fall he passed away.  I was very nervous, but in about an hour and a half, a 5-point buck stepped into view.  I called him so he would stop, and sure enough he stopped broadside.  He went about 25 feet from where I shot him and laid down.

This was my very first harvest with my Dad.  I was getting discouraged after sitting the day and not seeing any activity.  It was almost dusk and to the point where we were about to pack up.  We had about a half hour left to legal hunting time and a 7-inch spike came out from the back of the field where we were sitting.  I looked at my Dad and remember telling him, "There's a deer!"  He looked through his binoculars and sure enough, it had horns.  At that point he looked over and said, "It has horns!  It has horns!  Get ready!"  I knelt down to steady my .308 and put my eyes on the target.  I shot and the buck went about 50 years before laying down.  I did give myself a scope kiss because I was so excited when I saw him kick that I tried to look over the scope at the same time and it came back and got me on the bridge of my nose.
