2017 opening day, I sat the morning hours in a new stand that we had put up a few weeks prior. My husband John didn’t want to hunt that day.  He had his annual deer hunting trip in northern Maine coming right up and he didn’t want to be tempted to shoot anything. He had a good feeling about my new stand, and that morning he decided to sit in his truck, nearby to where I was hunting, so that he would be close by if I got lucky.  Morning came and went without seeing anything. That afternoon when I was preparing to go sit again, he was preparing to sit in his truck again too.  I told him, “if you’re just going to sit in the truck, you might as well come sit in the stand... at least it won’t be so boring.” It’s a nice buddy stand and it was doable. We have only sat together (deer hunting) maybe 2 other times over the years. We had a lot of good buck sign and game camera pictures in around that stand, and I was hoping to maybe get a chance at a good one. About 4:00 this little guy came walking out behind us.  I hesitated for a minute, but quickly decided it would be more fun to shoot and share the experience with John than wait. I am usually upset with myself when I don’t resist the temptation...But I never was on this one. In order to make the shot, John had to bend over and I ended up laying my gun across his back! We had more fun laughing about the way it went down. Even though the deer is no trophy, the memories from this one are some of the best!
