Nice story Dana..  I am sure that deer meant as much or more  to your dad as if he had dropped the one he shot at.  This story epitomizes what Gametiks is all about.  Please make more stories and preserve them here.  Definitely story of the week.

My father asked me this year to take him out deer hunting. He is 62 years old and had never shot a deer. He had been recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and told me he was taking the first week of deer season off from work. I made sure I took the week off so I could hunt with him. I set us up on a food plot I had planted during the summer. The first morning we sat we did not see anything. He could not hunt the evening because of an appointment. The second morning we sat together and a spike horn stepped out into the food plot. Unfortunately the buck knew something was up and it began to run. My dad fired and missed. I could tell that my dad had not hit it but I told him I was going to get out of the stand and make sure. After looking around and not finding any hair or blood I got back into the stand. We were both upset and he asked if we could sit a little longer. My dad fired at around 0610 in the morning. At about 0635 I noticed a deer about 50-55 yards in front of me. The deer was behind some fur trees so I could not tell exactly what it was. It was thick and the deer began moving left  to right. I noticed a decent rack and told my dad that was a decent buck. My dad was having a hard time picking up the buck in his scope. My dad has a eye condition that makes his vision terrible. I knew he would have a hard time getting a shot off so I decided I was going to shoot. The buck was still moving and had his head down. I picked a shooting lane in between two trees and pulled the trigger. The buck fell right over and never moved. I could see his belly from the tree stand. This was the most memorable and special hunt I’ve ever been on. Unfortunately my dad never got his buck but we saw plenty of deer this season and he had a few different opportunities to pull the trigger.
