That's kinda crazy. I know nothing about creating lures. I always figured either they're biting or they're not. It possible to protect your design?

I want to apologize first for the need to remove the pixels around my fishing lure but it will make sense if you continue to read this story. For the last couple of years in my spare time I have been trying to develop a trolling/casting spoon the met my needs. There have been a lot of failed attempts but not wasted time. Last night just as I sat down to relax for the evening an idea hit me. Off to the shop I went to turn the idea to substance. This mornings forecast was a little to wet for work but perfect for low light trolling. It was the perfect chance to try out my new lure. I started off the morning with my new lure on lead core line and my favorite Db Smelt on the down rigger. For the first hour and a half I was reeling in cold water fish on the led core with not even a strike on multiple setups on the down rigger. I got thinking it might be a great lure or possibly I had found the perfect depth. Going against my better judgement I reeled in lines, and swapped my prototype to the downrigger rod. I chose my 5 favorite lures and began to rotate them on the lead core. For the next 2 hours  my lead core with one lonely strike coming on a brown and silver DB Smelt. Meanwhile on the other side of the boat my prototype was getting hit about every 20 minutes.
This definitely needs more testing in all different conditions but I’m extremely excited to share more as it unfolds
