I caught this male fisher the last day of the season 1988.  I was 20 years old and I had a decent size trap line back and forth between my family home and my college campus in Bangor.   This fisher was taken in a .220 conibear on a leaning tree.  It was legal back then.    The location  of the harvest was behind Basil and Rita Barlow’s home off, ironically, the Fisher road in Monroe, Maine.   They both have passed a number of years ago.  I remember each year I would stop by to ask permission to trap they would invite me in the old farm house and try make me eat something.   The big old wood fired kitchen stove was always warm and the conversation was always great.  They would always ask about my parents and how the family was.   They were truly good people and the hometown people you always picture.   Basil liked to keep a few Bud heavies behind the kitchen stove.  He liked it warm for some reason.    I believe I got a $135.00 for that fisher skin at the auction in Etna, Maine.  Trapping was major part of the way I paid my way through college.  Fur prices were as good as they ever had been in my life.
