It was the summer of 1975 and I was seven years old. This was back in the time of youth when summer vacation from school really felt like a whole year off. This picture was taking in front of my family home off Stove Pipe Alley in Monroe, Maine.  My parents had purchased and moved into this home just six years earlier.  My dad bought the house and 50 acres from the town of Monroe for, I think, $1700.00.  My mother was mad at him but she fell in love with the place pretty quickly.  This year they had hired my uncle Steve Seekins to put on a second floor.    I caught this sucker in the farm pond behind the trap shed. I was fishing by myself and to that day it was the biggest fish I had ever caught.   I remember reeling it in and then wrestling with it on the pond bank to keep it from getting back in the water before running it to the house to show my mother.   It was the same spot that a year later I caught my first muskrat and also my sister, Cindy’s,  cat also all by myself.  I was not strong enough to set the traps myself so my dad would set them for me and I would carry them down through the woods to the pond.    There’s been so many changes over the years but I remember this like it was yesterday. Today there is a large pond behind where I’m standing. My son Brody and his wife Megan own and are making this their home. They have done such nice things and I am so happy they are there. Something else I remember about this time was my uncle Steve thinking it was funny or not  that I would come home from school and tell them it didn’t look like they did much work.    A picture surely is worth a thousand words.  I am so glad I came across this photo.
