So long lake derby started off so much snow you could barely move. Some of the roads were not plowed so it was hard to get to the pond. We went to Cross Lake, the wheelers were all froze up wouldn't Start. It was-15 and the derby had begun. We put heat packs on the starters of the wheelers, put our eskimo tents over them and started our buddy heaters. Finally got one running, the snow on the pond was up to our knees with some soft wet spots. Dad got stuck our stuff was everywhere. Finally got our crew out there and set up shop. We set out our traps it was so cold it was horrid. The holes iced up every 10 mins, if you could handle laddeling them every couple hours you were doing good. 
The day went on we didn't have much everything was froze up, we said screw it and waited as long as we could to haul up. We'll my flag didn't go off and I had this beautiful Salmon on my hooked tangled with someone else's line with a brookie. It was great, we brought it in to weight in at the landing in a complete blizzard. It was ozs off from placing 3rd. Just like the year before. I will win one of these years. It was a crazy cold derby at long lake this year. Brrrr.
