I sat with both my boys on their first bears.  You story brings back memories.

In 2014 I got invited to bear hunt at my sister and brother in laws place, Tylor Kelly Camps in Allagash Maine. The site we used had a double sized ground blind and I was lucky enough to have my dad sit with me and share in the experience. We didn’t see anything on Monday or Tuesday. On Wednesday with about a good hour left of daylight, we spotted a bear cautiously approaching. He ever so slowly zig zagged back and forth beyond the barrel checking things out. It seem like an eternity for him to finally approach. Finally, he did come into the barrel, but with the same caution. He seemed very nervous and twice he left and stepped back into the woods, out of sight, before coming back. I am sure a more experienced hunter, like my dad, would have shot him dead already. I just kept waiting to get a perfect broadside shot. It had to be pure torture for my dad...  At one point he whispered “OooooKaaaaaay.......” But I still couldn’t get the shot I wanted. I was starting to weigh my options about different shot placements and whispered to dad, “I might have to take him in the head” Not something I was very comfortable trying. The bear then exited again and I thought I probably had lost my chance all together. Then once again, he come back. By now he had been at the barrel, coming and going for 10 minutes. When he came back, I decided that was it, and as soon as he stuck his head in the barrel, I aimed for his neck... To my amazement, he instantly collapsed and his head never even came out of the barrel. A great memory shared with my dad and one that I will cherish it forever.
