Went on a 3 day hunt up north with my dad, we stayed at my grandparents camp for about a week. We had a guide and sat in the same set that I harvested my bear in 2 years ago, this stand always brings me luck. The 1st 7 hour evening set it was on youth day. 1:00 it started pouring, of course my mother dressed me with 5 layers in Hope's I wouldnt get wet. Well 7 hours later and it was still raining, me and my dad sat there in the stand the whole time. A bear came out and the wind swirled and he went back in the woods and we didnt see him again. So sunday we decided to go on our next hunt on monday, which was a much nicer day. We sat at 1:00, and at 4:00 a big bear came out, he was estimated 400lbs, huge. I was super excited, he keep circling and was headed for the barrel, I was stoked I was gonna get this doozie. Nope he looked at the barrel and trotted off. Another day down. Well the next day we went to a hunting store, got dad a full face shield and both of us a pair of gloves. We didnt know if the bear was seeing us in the tree or what was happening. So we got ready. We were gonna get him, we went into the stand at 1:00 again, and we put some bear magnet jelly bait just outside the tree line to get the bear to poke his head out of the thickets. Around 2:00 that big honker showed him self in the thickets through our the woods, went right to where we were dropped off and smelled the ground and kept walking up the road. He outsmarted us again, well my dads real irritates now and I told him "dad we are we gonna go. I doubt another bear is coming out." Well what would a true hunter do, wait and see I guess..discouraged in the stand, waiting for what seems like nothing..at 6:10 here comes a bear. Well he stopped in a opening and bam! I took a shot, hit em in the neck and he dropped. Wasnt my beast I had my eye on, but a bear is a bear, meat is meat. My dads a lobstermen and he dont get much time off so I had to get one! It was a long hunt, but well worth it. I'll get that big one next year, hopefully!
