John Gibbs 

Here we are 5 years later and for some reason there is no story on this buck but I still remember it as if it was only yesterday.  At  this point of my life this was the biggest buck I had killed. 

It was a very cold and quiet morning. I walked from l what is now my brothers house all the way to the top of the mountain. I had hunted in the same spot the evening before and saw several does which obviously boosted my confidence for the stump I was sitting on. Before leaving the spot I sprayed probably an unrealistic amount of deer scent in the area expecting to make the hike again in the morning. 

The next day came along and I made the walk to the same spot. It was not long before I did some calling with a can call and shortly after that I heard leaves crunching in my direction. Next thing I knew All I could see what his antlers coming up over the hill towards me and I knew he was a shooter. 

I was using Andrews 7mm that day for some reason. This buck stepped up just high enough for me to get a perfect broadside shot. I picked up and put the cross hairs right behind his front shoulder at about 40 yards and just squeezed the trigger. CLICK!! The round did not fire but the buck heard a not so natural noise. He did not run but was staring right at me. 

At this point I am in a pure panic because in my mind I know this deer is going to run when I cycle another round in but for some reason he let me. I took aim again and quickly got a shot off and dropped him in his tracks. This was a pretty easy drag since it was completely steep down hill on dead leaves.
