Contrary to the 2022 season I really had to work for this one. I changed schedules this year to a Tuesday through Friday work week. This allowed me to hunt most weeks only Mondays and Saturday’s. I also missed the first Monday and Saturday of the season for a vacation to Nashville(I did not pick the dates.) I saw only two deer this season that I could have killed, the first being a spike horn and then this 6 point. I started my morning sitting in the same stand that my father shot his 8 point in a week prior, my confidence  going in was extremely low as it had been pretty much everyday due to my lack of deer sightings. I sat in the stand until about 830 and gave up. I did not want to hunt anymore because it was starting to feel like a waste of time. As I got to the trail to head back towards my house I had a brief argument with myself and ultimately convinced myself to hunt for another hour and a half in another area a few hundred yards away. I made my way to a good spot where I could see a good distance and made a few buck grunts and began to kick my feet in the leaves making a mock scrape. In the process of making the scrape I heard a noise that stopped me. I listened for about two seconds before I decided the noise was a deer walking into me. I quickly climbed over a blown down tree behind me to get a clear shot just to find out I totally misjudged where this noise was coming from and had to climb back over the blow down because it was now in my way. The second my feet hit the ground on the other side I could start to see the legs moving through the thick stuff. At this point my gun was up and the safety was off. The deer stepped out I took one quick look saw it had antlers and squeezed the trigger.
