A deer I probably didn’t deserve. I had my two buddies from Scarborough up for our annual hunting trip. We spent about 4 days together all hunting very hard. A couple days before this I had an opportunity at a big doe and because we were all hunting together I shot her. This caused a multi day celebration which bled into the night before this where I had several other buddies over. We played card games and enjoyed maybe a few too many cold drinks. Ultimately we did not make up out of bed for the morning hunt. When we did finally make it out of bed we went and got breakfast at the Monroe lions club hunter breakfast. It was absolutely down pouring rain. Dan and Brian went out in the woods and sat thru the rainstorm and I told them I was right behind them when they walked out the door. I did not walk out right behind them  and walked right to the couch and laid down because I did not feel good. Once the rain stopped around 130 pm I thought it was finally time for me to go hunt. I had it all planned out all day where I was going to sit but that all changed when I got a picture of my neighbor walking right in front of my trail cam before I went out. This caused me to come up with a whole new plan which included me jumping on the four wheeler and heading near dads camp. When I got into the woods the clouds went away and it instantly became hot outside. My confidence went from about 10/100 to 0. I drove the wheeler to the area and sat on the wheeler for about 15 minutes playing on my phone and not being quiet, I didn’t care. Finally I walked about 100 yards from the four wheeler, sat on the ground against a tree that as a group have some history with. I did put out some code red doe estrous on a scent wick next to me. 5 minutes later i turned around and this buck was freshening up a scrape 50 yards from me.  I dropped him after a brief struggle to find him in my scope.
